Coronado has designated this solar telescope the PST, short for Personal Solar Telescope. It could be argued the “P” refers to this being one of the world’s most popular telescopes for observing the Sun. The PST is a highly portable 40 mm, f/10, dedicated H-alpha telescope that features specialized and innovative internal optics with a <1.0-angstrom bandpass. The internal, non-removable nature of the Coronado PST Solar Telescope’s optics make it a great choice for home and educational use. It is perfect for classrooms, outreach, and home use!

Unlike a white light solar filter, the Coronado PST solar telescope will show you images of the Sun in H-alpha. Watch as spectacular solar prominences dance on the edge of the Sun. Investigate snake-like filaments and sunspots on the Sun’s surface. The Sun is changing all the time, and it is amazing to watch in real-time, as solar flares erupt, grow, shrink, or even detach and float into space. The PST is able to provide these stunning views by utilizing an internal etalon primary blocking filter. A patented tuning system allows for fine adjustment of the bandpass for the best detail, and a built-in focuser allows you to achieve the sharpest image.

The Coronado PST comes with a number of handy features and accessories that make it easy to get started. A solar finder has been integrated into the telescope making it a breeze to get the PST pointed in the right direction, and with the 18 mm 1.25″ CEMAX eyepiece that is included in the box you can begin observing right away. The PST has a 1/4 x 20 threaded attachment point, making it easy to use this scope with standard photographic or video tripods (sold separately). Just make sure your mount or tripod is sturdy so the magnified views of the Sun will be nice and steady!

With the Coronado PST’s internal etalon filter built to pass only light with a wavelength of 6562.8 Angstroms, you can experience the rich detail of the Sun in H-Alpha. The patented RichView system takes your views a step further, by providing user adjustment of the bandbpass for detail refinement.

Built in Solar Finder
Most H-alpha solar telescopes require an optional sun finder, but the Coronado PST comes with a built-in patented sun spotting device. When you are properly aligned on the Sun its image will fall on a small pinhole, causing a bright dot to be projected onto an opaque glass window on the top of the PST body. The Coronado PST solar telescope’s sun-spotter makes aligning the Sun a simple matter, and if you have ever tried to align a protected telescope on the Sun without a finder, you will appreciate this innovative feature all the more!

Ultra-Light Portability and Great Compatibility
Coming in at 3.2 lbs, the Coronado PST is incredibly portable! The lightweight build of this telescope and common 1/4 x 20 mounting thread make it an easy match for many photographic and video tripods available on the market today. Coronado has also packaged this with a reusable box full of dye-cut foam, providing a handy transport solution.
