Introducing The Moon & Skyglow Filter From Apertura!
Are you tired of light pollution wreaking havoc on your visual astronomy sessions? Apertura has you covered! Introducing their Moon & Skyglow filter, this visual accessory can reduce the effects of light pollution while increasing contrast levels seen within your eyepiece. It works by blocking out light from surrounding street lights, house lights, and other forms of artificial light pollution. It also helps reduce the effects of natural light pollution produced by our Moon. Despite its light blocking nature, it is carefully designed to preserve the transmission of light from many astronomical objects, boosting contrast and elevating your visual experience.
As opposed to aggressive light pollution filters such as UHC filters, the Apertura Moon & Skyglow filter takes a gentler approach, increasing contrast yet still producing natural, more pleasing colors. This makes it useful for observing bright objects such as the planets, star clusters, and even some nebulae. Adding this filter to your visual set up can reveal higher definition within Jupiter’s cloud bands, while offering more subtle improvements when viewing bright globulars such as M13, the Hercules Cluster, by helping to darken the sky around the target. You can also expect to perceive enhanced separation of structures within showpiece targets such as the Orion Nebula as well. More aggressive light pollution filters can offer increased contrast when viewing many faint nebulae, although these types of filters tend to darken the sky too much when using higher magnification eyepieces. The gentler nature of this Apertura Moon & Skyglow filter will provide a more natural looking sky background with more stars revealed. As such, moon and skyglow filters are generally thought of as “all purpose” filters and viewed as being beneficial on a broader range of objects. With this versatility and the exceptional build quality from Apertura, you’re sure to be out under the stars as much as possible!
Emphasize Detail and Improve Contrast With This High Performance Filter
Let’s Take a Deeper Look!
What sets one filter apart from another? Which filter is best for me? When developing a filter, manufacturers provide a chart that represents the wavelengths permitted through this filter. This gives insight into the filter’s performance, and what it can help you achieve. So, how exactly do I read a transmission chart? Our team has put together a comprehensive article, to help you understand the fundamentals on How to Read a Transmission Chart. Better Definition and Higher Contrast – Elevate Your Visual Experience
With its specialized construction and precision coatings, this filter allows you to go beyond the constraints of light pollution, providing enhanced views of numerous celestial objects. Read more about this incredible filter below!
More Detail, Less Light Pollution
During the day, light from our Sun illuminates our atmosphere, concealing the stars, planets, and other celestial bodies from view. Artificial light and moonlight can have a similar effect on our atmosphere, which is why it’s difficult to discern details from astronomical objects under bright Moon light or within urban areas. By cutting through light pollution with the Apertura Moon & Skyglow Filter, more details can be resolved that may have otherwise been much tougher to see! Under favorable atmospheric conditions, Jupiter’s Great Red Spot should be more defined, surface details on Mars are intensified, and the Cassini Division on Saturn can be seen with more clarity. The Apertura Moon & Skyglow filter blocks out a wide band of wavelengths to improve contrast. As such, these inherent light blocking abilities means filter stacking is not recommended with this accessory.
Compatible With Almost Any System
This Apertura 1.25” Moon & Skyglow Filter is mounted within a sturdy filter cell, and seamlessly incorporates into your visual set up for high contrast views. Simply thread it onto the bottom of your 1.25” eyepiece, insert your eyepiece into your visual back or diagonal, and you’re ready to go! This filter has been optimized for eyepieces with an exit pupil of 2mm or larger.
Built With Quality in Mind
Apertura is known for their high caliber craftsmanship, and their Moon & Skyglow Filter is no exception. Schott B270 glass coupled with precision Ion Assisted Deposition (IAD) coatings deliver the utmost transmission in the desired wavelengths by reducing scatter and upholding its durability. Also, these coatings feature off-band blocking to further enhance the light pollution suppression performance. With a featured Surface Quality of 60/40 and Surface Flatness of λ/4, maximum clarity, for highly satisfying results!
