Obtain a Wider Field and Faster Exposures for Your Askar 103APO
with This 0.6x Full-Frame Reducer from Askar
This 0.6x reducer from Askar is designed for their 103APO triplet refractor. The 0.6x reducer provides a wider field image for astrophotography, allowing the capture of larger areas of nebulae or star clusters, or to capture faint and fast moving celestial objects.
A Wider Image Field, Faster Exposure Times
This 0.6x reducer brings down the focal ratio of the Askar 103APO to f/4.08. This reducer also acts to flatten the image field, making this optimized for astrophotography. The body of the reducer is CNC machined and comes with threaded metal caps for each end that prevent dust or damage to the optics when not in use.
A Full-Frame Reducer for Astrophotography
This 0.6x reducer from Askar is made for their 103APO triplet refractor. It supports a 44mm, full-frame image circle and weighs just over two pounds. The reducer itself sports a four-element (quadruplet) optical design. The front thread is an M84x1. The camera end of the reducer provides M68x1, M54x0.75, and M48x0.75 threads, allowing for the connection of a variety of cameras. In addition, an internal M48x0.75 thread allows for the attachment of 2″ threaded filters. Backfocus from the M48 thread is the standard 55 mm. Once installed, the 0.6x reducer changes the focal ratio of the 103APO to f/4.08 and reduces the focal length to 420.24 mm.
Installation Steps One to Three
Installation is relatively simple, though it does require some disassembly of the Askar 103APO. Firstly, make sure the focuser is positioned beyond the dovetail plate by loosening the tube ring screws and sliding the tube rings and attached plate away from the focuser. Next, unscrew and remove the focuser. Then pull the lens hood/dew shield forward. Loosen and slide the tube rings with attached dovetail toward the lens hood.
Installation Steps Four and Five
With the focuser removed and the dovetail and tube rings adjusted, unscrew and remove the rear section of the lens tube. Re-install the focuser into the front section of the lens tube.
Installation Steps Six and Seven
Lastly, unscrew and remove the 2″ and 1.25″ adapters from the rear of the focuser. Unscrew and remove the dust cap of the 0.6x reducer and screw the reducer into the Askar 103APO. Before attaching a camera, you may also install a 2″ filter to the 0.6x reducer using its internal M48x0.75 filter threads.
