   I recently bought this Astronomik L-1 UV-IR blocking filter to help with a recent project I have been working on. The project involves imaging the Sun with a spectroheliograph called a Sol’Ex. I use the L-1 filter on the front of the Sol’Ex to block out the unwanted wavelengths and pass those that I do want. The unique thing about the L-1 is that

   it passes two of the most juicy wavelengths to image, H-alpha on the red side of the spectrum and Calcium K-line on the blue side of the spectrum. Other UV/IR filters like the Baader UV/IR filter, while good too, do not pass the Calcium K-line. That makes the L-1 an ideal addition to my project.
