Dan C. Verified Buyer –
I ordered this early this year, and it took a few months to arrive from back order. But it was well worth the wait – and High Point Scientific provided regular status updates.
Having used the scope for the last 6 months or so, I’m completely happy. Collimation with a laser collimator is straightforward – and I collimate each night I take
the scope out. It also holds collimation well, once you dial in the knobs.
The fan on the primary mirror is a godsend in my humid climate – as is the extended optical tube for the secondary, though I also use a dew shield just to be sure. So far, I’ve not needed to use dew Heater straps.
With a coma corrector – I got the Baader Mk III – stars are pinpoint out to the edges of a 4/3 inch sensor (the largest I have).
This is almost a grab-n-go scope. I walk it out into the yard each night, though it’s obviously heavier and more unwieldy than a small refractor.
The images I’ve been able to capture have been awesome. I had the Bubble Nebula in mind when I bought the scope – as the focal length is necessary to get a decent view of the nebula. This is my first, fully realized image with the scope: https://bsky.***/profile/vidholf.bsky.social/post/3l7yovp32tf2w
P. S. The scope, plus astrophotography rig, can be mounted on the Pegasus Astro Nyx-101 harmonic mount, provided a counterweight bar and counterweight(s) are used. I typically get guiding rates under . 3 with that setup (unless it is windy).
