The 130PHQ Refractive Astrograph by Askar
If you’re looking for a refractor that makes big performance easy to reach,
then this large entry in Askar’s astrophotography focused PHQ line is for you!
Sporting a no fuss optical design, this titan makes accessing its sharp and
stunning images simple, with no backfocus calculations required. With two ED
element quadruplet APO optics projecting this incredibly vivid window across
an incredible medium-format sized image circle, the Askar
130PHQ Quadruplet Refracting Astrograph makes a strong case for your next long
focal length imaging optic!
The lens arrangement of this refractor is in a quadruplet, 3+1, air-spaced
configuration. Two of the front lenses are made with extra-low dispersion (ED)
glass to reduce chromatic and other aberrations and enhance clarity and
sharpness. The aperture of this astrograph is 130 mm, with a longer focal
length of 1000 mm, yielding a focal ratio of f/7.7. In addition, this
refractor supports an incredible medium-frame, 60 mm image circle! As with the
other scopes in the PHQ line, there is no need to calculate backfocus, nor is
there a need for an additional field flattener, as the optical design ensures
a flat field. The sturdy, 3.4″ rack-and-pinion, dual-speed focuser of the
130PHQ allows for 1:10 fine adjustment. With the 130PHQ from Askar, you get an
f/7.5 system with 130 mm of aperture, and with a gross weight of 27.5 pounds
(12.5 kg), making this a performance-centered astrograph! The aesthetics of
the 130PHQ are appealing. The white finish is lightly textured to provide
grip. A pair of black, CNC-machined tube rings keep the optical tube secure
for mounting. These rings can be tightened or loosened via the locking thumb
screws, with no additional tools needed.
An Optical Performance Powerhouse
With excellent optics, a no fuss imaging train design, powerful focuser, and
all the essential accessories you need, the Askar 130PHQ Quadruplet Refracting
Astrograph is a great way to add incredible light gathering and performance to
your imaging system!
Quadruplet Lens Design
At the Askar 130PHQ Quadruplet Refracting Astrograph’s core is a 3+1 optical
design which provides this scope’s big performance power! Containing two ED
elements, this quadruplet provides great color correction, detail, and field
flatness without the need for additional corrective elements. This optical
design additionally allows you to connect your imaging equipment without
detailed backfocus calculations — as long as your camera can reach
focus you’ll be receiving the best images the 130PHQ has to offer! This
optical performance is spread across an incredible 60 mm image circle,
ensuring that your images can span even some of the industry’s most
demanding equipment!
Massive 3.4″ Focuser
Supporting this astrograph’s incredible image circle coverage is a similarly
massive 3.4″ focuser! This rigid focuser can support heavy imaging
equipment, with threaded connections for M68, M54, and M48 supported through
the included adapter set. For smooth focusing, this stout focuser includes a
dual speed focuser that will make fine focusing a cinch! This focuser is
also ready for modern imaging accessories, with bracket-style electronic
focuser attachment points to make mounting popular automated options like
the
ZWO Standard Electronic Automatic Focuser
easy!
Recommended: Askar 0.7x Universal Reducer for 130PHQ (sold
separately)
The
full-frame reducer from Askar
(sold separately) is specially designed to for Askar’s larger PHQ scopes, allowing you to
increase the 130PHQ’s speed while maintaining a high level of performance!
With a 0.7x reduction factor, this reducer allows you to increase the
130PHQ’s focal ratio from an f/7.7 to an f/5.4 for a much brighter image
that make collecting signal a faster proposition. This reducer will also
expand your FOV with this scope out to 702 mm, allowing you to capture wider
perspectives of existing targets, as well as add some larger ones to this
scope’s repertoire. While this will shrink your available image circle to
full-frame, if maximizing the speed of this large refractor is what you’re
after then it is hard to beat this solution!
Included Accessories
Askar has included a number of core accessories with the 130PHQ Quadruplet
Refracting Astrograph to ensure this is astrophotography rig ready
out-of-the-box! For connecting the scope to your mount and adding your
supporting accessories the 130PHQ includes a set of tube rings connected to
an D-style dovetail and convenient carry handle, as well as a
Synta-style finder shoe. Ensuring you can connect a wide variety of cameras
and other imaging train equipment, a set of 4 focuser adapters have been
included: an M86 to M68, an M68 to M54x0.75, and M54x0.75 to M48x0.75 (with
2″ threaded filter cell) adapter are included, along with one M54x0.75
extension tube.
Robert B. Verified Buyer –
The 130PHQ joins the excellent PHQ family alongside my ASKAR PHQ. The build quality and finish as well as the focuser and features make it perfect addition to my observatory. Unfortunately I have not had any consistent clear skies, and was only able to run an autofocus run and take one 5 min sub which showed pinpoint round stars in all 4 corners.
I will update this review once the skies clear. If it follows in the footsteps of my 80PHQ it should provide some excellent images.
