An Ultra-High Resolution Planetary Camera and Guider for Entry-Level Astrophotography!
The 715C from QHY is an ultra-high resolution, back-illuminated color camera with extremely low read noise, making this an ideal complement to smaller, short focal length refractors.
The Sony IMX715C CMOS sensor has a pixel size of 1.45um and a pixel area of 3840 x 2192, for a total of 8.4 megapixels. This latest generation of sensors has a physically deeper photodiode portion of the pixel well, which allows photons of longer wavelengths to penetrate deeper into the substrate. This provides extended red and near-infrared (NIR) sensitivity. In fact, this sensor displays almost equal peak sensitivity in the near-infrared as to light in the visible spectrum!
The QHY5III v2 Series Adds a Number of Innovations and Improvements
The 715C from QHY is part of the 5III series, version two, which provides a host of inceased specifications. This includes a large, 512MB DDR3 image buffer to speed imaging processing times. A new font-end design increases compatibility with off-axis guiders (OAGs) and other accessories. In addition, this series adds a USB3.2 type-C interface for power and PC connectivity and adopts the near-universal ST4 guide port for guiding. Lastly, a multi-colored indicator LED on the camera body helps troubleshoot system problems. Don’t worry, this light is off during normal operation to preserve night vision and not contaminate images with stray photons.
Sony IMX715 CMOS Sensor
The QHY5III715C features the Sony IMX715 color CMOS sensor. Along with enhanced near-infrared sensitivity, this 8.4MP sensor has a pixel size of 1.45um and an effective pixel area of 3840 x 2192. In addition, it has a fullwell capacity of 5.7ke.
What’s Included
The 715C comes with everything needed to start imaging! A USB3.0 type-C cable provides power and PC connectivity. Also included is an ST4 guiding cable, a focus lock ring with a thumb screw, two 0.25 mm focusing adapter rings, a CS- to C-Mount adapter, a 1.25″ to CS-Mount adapter, a filter coated front window, as well as instructions for downloading the device driver.
