After many years of using the Skymax 150, I finally acquire the 180 and the results are very impressive, and it worth every single penny. For those who are looking for planetary or lunar observation, this is the crème de la crème and the images that you can achieve are truly breathtaking. To this scope the focuser was improved from the previous ve
rsions and it feels more stable but as we know if we want to achieve the absolute best from the called planet killer we need to add a little help with a Crayford focuser or a feather touch focuser, and both are excellent and I happen to have both options and I decide to use the Crayford focuser with an electronic auto focuser and I’m very pleased with the results. On the other side as we know the maksutov telescopes require time to equalize the temperature and the bigger they are the more time is required so this one is around an hour . . For those who want to explore other capabilities on this scope, you can get a focal reducer. In this case, I use the 94175 and is a very good option and I’m very pleased with the results. Keep in mind that on this scope the front meniscus lens is very heavy and depending on the weight of the eyepiece or the camera or additional gear you might want to add a dovetail counterweight to make the balance an easier task. I couldn’t be happier with this purchase and a big thanks for the great service of High Point Scientific.
