With a weight capacity of 44 pounds, the beefy and thoughtfully designed Sky-Watcher EQ6-R Pro Computerized Equatorial Mount is just the thing for amateur astronomers and astrophotographers who use all but the largest of telescope optical tube assemblies.

The stepper motors and belt drives provide accurate, reliable, and quiet finding and tracking, with slewing speeds of up to 3.4-degrees/second. Other features and accessories include a counterweight shaft that retracts into the body of the mount for easier portability, two 11-pound counterweights to balance the mount against the payload, and illuminated polar scope, as well as a dual D/V-style mounting plate.

You’ll really like thoughtful features such as the EQ6-R Pro dual saddle plate that will accept either Vixen- or Losmandy-style dovetails. A built-in carry handle near the polar scope will make transporting and setting up the EQ6R Pro mount much easier, as will the retractable counterweight shaft. Many telescope mount manufacturers do not include a polar scope on their mid-weight equatorial mounts–but not Sky-Watcher! They have included a built-in illuminated polar scope to help make polar alignment a breeze.

While looking through your EQ6-R Pro polar scope, you will notice that the reticle is not orientated right side up, as it is aligned with the mount’s central axis instead. To accurately polar align, the cross hairs within the reticle must form an upright “+” shape, and this can be achieved by rotating the RA axis until it is correctly oriented. There is no need to worry if the 12 o’clock positioning is accurate, as long as the cross hairs are straight up and down within the reticle.

The Sky-Watcher EQ6-R Pro mount sits on a very sturdy tripod, with 2″ diameter stainless steel legs, a tripod spreader plate with cut-outs for eyepiece storage, and tripod feet that will snuggle into the dirt or grass. The EQ6-R Pro also comes with two 11-lb. counterweights, and a thread-on power cable.

The Skywatcher EQ6R Pro Mount has a belt drive system and stepper motors for accurate, quiet, and reliable tracking of celestial objects. The included SynScan hand controller allows the user to control the mount and tap into a database of over 42,000 objects. A Wi-Fi dongle to allow control via Wi-Fi can also be purchased separately. The EQ6-R Pro mount also has an ST4 auto guider port.
