Whether you’re interested in a portable scope for visual observations or astrophotography, the Apertura 72mm FPL-53 Doublet APO Refractor has you covered! With Ohara ED glass, this 72mm scope will provide you with clear images of many celestial objects in a compact scope package; and with the essential accessories you need for connecting this scope to your tripod/ mount and your 1.25″/2″ gear included, Apertura has made it easy to get out and experience those incredible views in no time!

With an OTA weighing under 5 lbs. and a footprint of just 12″ long when fully collapsed, it is easy to see what makes the Apertura 72EDR well suited to use both at home and on the road; but less visible is all the optical performance that has been packed into the doublet optical design. With a 72 mm front objective lens and f/6 design, this scope provides a 430 mm focal length, excellent for viewing or imaging larger, brighter objects in the night sky. Thanks to the Ohara FPL-53 glass, this 72 mm refractor renders those objects in well color corrected detail for great views and images. For light control this scope not only features an extendable dewshield that helps block stray light and dew, but also darkened lens edges, light baffling inside the tube, and micro-baffles in the drawtube itself that help catch internal light reflections to provide increased contrast!

With a compact design that easily travels just about anywhere, the Apertura 72mm FPL-53 Doublet APO Refractor is a great portable scope! It doesn’t stop there however – with a focuser fit for gear both large and small, dedicated upgrades available, and an industry leading warranty, there is plenty more to like with the 72EDR!

Compact Package, Full Functionality
Weighing in a just 4.8 lbs. for the OTA on its own, and only a bit more fully assembled, this 72 mm refractor is an excellent portable option. Featuring 1/4″x20 threaded connections on the included scope ring, this scope can easily be used with a photographic tripod – or a Vixen astronomy mount saddle when the included dovetail bar is installed. These stylized rings also come equipped with a handle preinstalled for easy transport that doubles as a second slotted Vixen dovetail bar – providing extra mounting or accessory connection options! This scope additionally comes with finder base that can easily hold your finderscope, guidescope, or other Synta-style mounted accessories. Finally, to combat dust, dew, and stray light this scope features an extendable dew shield and a blue dust cap.

10:1 Dual Speed 2″ Focuser
With a 10:1 dual speed focuser, the Apertura 72 mm FPL-53 Doublet APO refractor make precise focusing easy; and the rack and pinion design holds even stout imaging trains in place. Its 2″ opening provides enough room for user supplied 2″ eyepieces or 2″ nosepieces, with a 2″ to 1.25″ adapter included in the box to cover all common visual connection sizes. For dedicated astrophotographers this also features a camera rotator, allowing for easy framing of celestial objects!

Apertura 2″ Field Flattener (Sold Separately)
For those looking to push the astrophotography performance of this scope, look no further than this dedicated EDR series field flattener from Apertura! Available as an individual upgrade or as part of this astrophotography 72EDR bundle, this corrective lens optimizes this scope for imaging by flattening the photographic field. This provides improved star shapes across your frame, with support up to full-frame! With an adjustable design you can not only dial this field flattener in for the industry standard 55 mm backfocus, but also small mm adjustments you may need for fine tuning. Apertura has also included a threaded 2″ filter cell, allowing for even further performance gains via user supplied imaging filters!
