Fran J. Verified Buyer –
I received my Askar 140 APO on February 5th and I’ll be honest, it’s a bit more robust than I was expecting and that’s a good thing in my opinion. I’m very impressed with the fit and finish, everything moves smoothly as expected and the focuser is a dream. The OTA was easy to balance on my EQ6R but I’ll definitely need the pier extension for viewi
ng at the zenith. I was able to get in a few hours of viewing in on the first night. As far as the views go, they are crisp and clean. No false color or haloes around any bright objects including Sirius. Venus, Mars, Jupiter and the moon were very nice at medium magnification too. The following night I spent some time on Mars and Jupiter. I wasn’t able to pull much detail out on Mars but on Jupiter, my Tel-View 6mm gave me a magnification of 326X and some specular views. This is my first true refractor of any size, my other 2 OTA’s are both reflectors (6” & 8”) but i can see why others rave about the views through a refractor. In my opinion, the Askar 140 APO is a fantastic OTA that is capable of spectacular views and providing hours of enjoyment,
