Check Out This High Performance Refractor From Askar!
In search of a high quality refractor for outstanding astrophotography performance? Look no further than this Askar SQA70! Quintuplet in design, you can expect coma-free images with super-fine pinpoint stars. These five internal lenses also provide an inherent flat field for sharp stars from corner to corner, even with full frame cameras. Not only are the optics outstanding, but this refractor is designed with the utmost precision—featuring high quality CNC machining, a robust dual-speed focuser, a built-in 360° rotator, and plenty more! Thanks to the premier craftsmanship from Askar, this SQA70 is sure to take your astrophotography journey to the next level.
The wide field of view provided by the 336 mm focal length is perfect for capturing a host of celestial objects. Fill the frame with the Heart Nebula, the Pleiades Open Star Cluster, the Andromeda Galaxy, and plenty of others. The large 70 mm aperture soaks in the photons for bright, highly detailed images, and the two pieces of ED glass within this refractor focuses the incoming light for super sharp, pinpoint stars. Setting you up for success, Askar has furnished this SQA70 with a Vixen-style dovetail, robust tube rings, two finderbases, and multiple rear-end adapters for seamless accessory attachment. Sporting the sleek, signature grey of the Askar SQA series, Askar has you imaging in style!
Full Frame, Flat Field Imaging
Quintuplet in design, five lens elements work together to focus the incoming light with the utmost precision. Two pieces of extra-low dispersion (ED) glass within this refractor further enhance image sharpness, correcting for chromatic aberration (also known as color fringing). Spherical aberration is also kept well in check thanks to this quintuplet design for beautiful, pinpoint stars. In fact, the spot diagram of this SQA70 denotes a central star point with an RMS radius of less than 1.84 µm. Talk about sharp! Another key benefit of this Petzval refractor is the inherent flat field, meaning the stars from corner to corner will be sharp without the need for an additional field flattener. Enjoy imaging brilliant, wide-field scenes with your full frame camera without the worry of star distortion around the edges. Backspacing calculations are also not necessary with this Petzval design—as long as your imaging train can reach focus, the entirety of your field of view will be in focus. This makes camera attachment a breeze as there is no need to go through the hassle of finding the perfect backspacing distance for sharp stars across the entire field of view. Simply attach your camera and you’re ready to go!

Designed for Outstanding Astrophotography Performance
With this Askar SQA70 within your astroimaging toolkit, you’re well equipped for near limitless imaging possibilities! The 336 mm focal length is ideal for imaging vast, brilliant scenes of large nebulae and galaxies. Capture the stunning colors of the Orion Nebula, be stunned by the intricate structure of the Cygnus Wall, and marvel at the beautiful display that is the Veil Nebula. Large galaxies like the Andromeda Galaxy and the Triangulum Galaxy are excellent targets as well! Featuring a fast focal ratio of f/4.8, collect a copious amount of photons in little time. Three rear-end adapters come standard with this SQA70 (M54, M48, and M42) for effortless camera attachment.
Let’s Dig into the Data
Through extensive testing, this Askar SQA70 demonstrates exceptional optical performance, delivering outstanding contrast and illumination within the captured images. The modulation transfer function (MTF) quantifies the overall clarity of an image on a scale of 0 to 1.0, with the horizontal axis representing the distance from the center to the edge of the frame. When tested with low frequencies (blue lines), the MTF values reached an incredible >0.9, displaying the high resolution and sharpness provided by this SQA70. The Relative Illumination (RI) graph displays the illumination value from the center to the edges of the frame. Even near the corners, the illumination is over 90% meaning vignetting is well in-check, even across the 44 mm image circle.
Robust 2.5″ Dual-Speed Focuser
Fitted with a dual-speed Rack & Pinion focuser, focusing is proven effortless. The large dial allows you to first find rough focus, while the smaller dial enables smaller, more precise focusing. The entire barrel of this 2.5” focuser is CNC machined for the utmost durability, and is compatible with the majority of electronic focusers on the market today. This focuser features a 32mm focus travel and comes furnished with an engraved high-precision scale for accurate and repeatable results. Its anti-reflective design and matte paint works to eliminate stray light for the best possible results.
Loaded With Inclusions
Askar has included numerous accessories to help you get ready for a night of imaging. Upon receiving your Askar SQA70, you’ll find a Vixen-style dovetail bar, a tube ring with an accessory slot, M42, M48,and M54 adapters, and two finderbases.
