Celestron AstroMaster 102AZ Included Accessories
Celestron’s AstroMaster 102AZ Refracting telescope comes ready to perform straight out of the box. The included accessories offer amateur astronomers a chance to dip their toe into exploring the night sky without searching for additional accessories. The 4″ OTA, alt-azimuth mount, and tripod are accompanied by two 1.25″ eyepieces, 20mm and 10mm. These eyepieces are a great way to try out low and medium power views. Whether you want to explore craters on the Moon or see the Orion Nebula in all of its glory, these eyepieces have got you covered.
The AstroMaster 102AZ telescope also comes with a built-in red dot finder, which will help guide you as you manually track and locate objects.
With the included tripod tray, you can have a safe place to put the accessories not currently in use. It is a great relief to know that your eyepieces and other telescope accessories are so close, and you can keep a better eye on them so they do not fall or get scratched.
The 102AZ also comes with a 1.25″ 90° Erect Image Diagonal. This accessory makes the AstroMaster 102AZ a dual purpose telescope! Using this special diagonal, which makes sure the image you see is right-side up, astronomers can turn their sights to daytime viewing as well as observations of the cosmos!
The focuser on the AstroMaster refractor is a single-speed, Rack & Pinion style focuser. Made with Celestron’s high-quality materials, this focuser will help maintain your precise focus, so there is no slippage during the movement of the mount. Alex H. Verified Buyer –
Thought I would give an update on this telescope for those who may be interested in this item. I purchased this scope in June of 2020 from HPS after a long hiatus from this hobby. I had a couple of department store scopes (a refractor and a reflector) but sold both many years ago. After my retirement, I had the time and have a great location to ju
mp back into sky watching. Not wanting to jump back in too deep, I purchased this scope. My previous review still stands but I do have some recommendations. I replaced the stock eyepieces with a Celestron 8-24 mm zoom eyepiece and am pleasantly surprised at the optics of the zoom. I replaced the stock diagonal with a better one but kept the original for use with the scope as a spotter. I purchased a 32 mm super plossl eyepiece for sweeping the sky and for use as a finder. This eyepiece works great with this telescope for viewing star clusters and such. The Pleiades looked great as did the core area of Andromeda. This scope has a 660 mm focal length so a bit more magnification is needed. A purchase of a Celestron 2X barlow and a Meade “shorty” 3X barlow provided the needed magnification. The max of useful magnification obtained was about 198 times with the 3X barlow and the zoom eyepiece set around 10 mm. I used this magnification for views of Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars and was again pleasantly surprised by the views. This was on a night of above average seeing. Actually, even lesser magnifications provided great views. I attached a DSLR camera to this scope and took some moon pictures which were surprisingly good for my first attempt at this. BTW, I also recommend a moon filter.
I have an equitorial mount on order from HPS and will use this mount with this scope for longer and easier viewing but will keep the alt-az mount for use with the scope as a spotter. This is a great grab and go telescope and if anyone wants to get their feet wet as a sky lurker, this is a great starter telescope and hopefully it will be available again.
As you can see, I have the fever and hope to have a larger aperture scope in my future sometime. Clear skies to all.
