A Perfect Fit for Your 8″ SCT!
Zoom in on the Sun’s energetic surface with this custom fit solar filter from
Celestron! Designed to lock into your 8″ telescope, this solar filter offers a
way to quickly and securely transform your SCT for daytime observing. If
you’re looking to explore the center of our solar system with your Celestron
scope, then the EclipSmart Solar Filter for 8″ SCT & EdgeHD Telescope is
for you!
The surface of our closest star is constantly changing as the awe-inspiring
forces that drive it ebb, flow, and swirl; and with the Celestron EclipSmart
Solar Filter for 8″ SCT & EdgeHD Telescopes you’ll be transported to an
up-close view of this dynamic surface! With the longer focal lengths offered
by Celestron’s popular 8″ compound scopes, you can fill
half to around two-third of the stock eyepieces with the Sun. This
allows you to observe sun spots, image the solar surface, and view incredible
eclipses safely, with a film that conforms to the ISO 12312-2:2015(E) safety
standard produced by a NASA recommended solar film supplier. This film renders
the Sun in an orange hue for a more natural feeling solar view.
Please Note: Upon receiving your EclipSmart filter, you will notice
“wrinkles” or “waves” in the film. Waves and wrinkles are normal. Hard
creases, however, are not normal. While EclipSmart film with hard creases is
still safe, the creases may degrade the quality of the image. Always inspect
your solar filter prior to each use. Do not use if there are any puncture
marks, holes, or tears in the filter.
Confirmed Compatibility
The EclipSmart Solar Filter for 8″ SCT & EdgeHD Telescopes is designed to be a
perfect fit for a number of popular offerings from Celestron. Simply replace
the dust cap with the EclipSmart solar filter, connect the safety straps, and
you’re ready to start observing! To confirm this filter will work for you

Safe, Simple, Solar Filter Option
Meeting three safety standards, this specially fitted solar filter from
Celestron is the perfect way to simply convert your 8″ SCT or EdgeHD telescope
for stellar solar views!
Solar Safe Technology
Celestron’s EclipSmart solar
products utilize Solar Safe filter technology for an engaging
and safe solar viewing experience. This filter provides protection
again the Sun’s dangerous radiation, filtering out UV, IR, as well as
99.999% of visible light. This is certified protection, with the solar
filter meeting/ conforming to ISO 12312-2:2015(E), EN 1836:2005 (E), and
AS/NZS 1338.1:2012 standards.
Simple Installation
Unlike universal front aperture
solar filters which require you to size them for the scope, using the
Celestron EclipSmart with your 8″ SCT/ EdgeHD is safe and simple! Just press
into place, and then twist to lock this solar filter in place just like you
would with the telescope dust cap. Then attach the included hook and loop
strips to the solar filter and telescope tube to finish securing the
EclipSmart for safe solar observing.
Don’t Forget Your Finder!
While smaller and lower in
magnification (sometimes none at all in the case of red-dot finder), viewing
the Sun through a finderscope or red dot finder is still dangerous.
Never view the Sun through a finderscope or red dot finder without a
proper solar filter in place. We do not recommend non-magnified/ red dot finders as it is easy to
accidentally look around the finder. Additionally even if you don’t intend
to look through a magnified finderscope, these still can pose a hazard if
left uncovered as they can focus light behind the scope posing a fire
hazard. As a result,
removing your finderscope while using a solar filter is strongly
recommended. Our recommendation for locating the Sun is the use of a dedicated solar finder like the
Apertura Solar Finder for their simple and safe design.
